(IINO Lines) and Norsepower have successfully equipped the Oceanus Aurora, a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC), with two Norsepower Rotor Sails™️each 20 meters tall and 4 meters in diameter. Custom-designed to meet the vessel’s specific air draught requirements, these innovative sails utilize the Magnus effect to enhance propulsion by harnessing wind power. This modern adaptation of the Flettner rotor minimizes fuel consumption, thereby cutting CO₂ emissions by approximately 4%.
This installation marks a notable advancement in reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency in the shipping industry.Oceanus Aurora Delivered in March 2023 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (now Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd.) in Korea, the Oceanus Aurora was originally constructed with provisions for rotor sail technology. The installation, carried out in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in early November 2024.
