Yangzijiang Maritime has signed a contract with Watts Energy & Engineering (WE) for the construction of four 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax bulk carriers, with an option for two additional vessels. Contract value and delivery schedule have not been disclosed. The order continues Yangzijiang Maritime's strategy of placing shipbuilding contracts with domestic second- and third-tier shipyards and marks the first time the company has chosen WE as a shipbuilding partner. For WE, the deal deepens its expansion into conventional merchant vessel construction, following an earlier order from Amoysailing Maritime for four 82,000 DWT bulk carriers due for delivery in 2028, which was WE's first bulk carrier contract. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, that Amoysailing contract was valued at USD 36.5 million per vessel, specified conventional fuel propulsion, and was reported to the market on 17 August 2026. Established in 2008 with investment from Shanghai Huazi Benteng Holding Group, WE is based in the Shipbuilding Industrial Park of Qidong City, Jiangsu Province, and has traditionally focused on marine energy equipment, offshore engineering components, and ship repair and conversion, servicing over one hundred vessels annually. Its first full-vessel newbuild, a 35-metre Crew Transfer Vessel named Huazi Fengxing 01, was delivered in May 2025. Since mid-September, Yangzijiang Maritime has publicly announced orders for more than 50 vessels, including options, across bulk carriers, product/chemical tankers, LR2 tankers and VLCCs. On 18 September it placed 24 firm orders plus 16 options with Chinese shipyards for delivery between 2028 and 2030, and on 30 September it contracted Jiangsu Haifeng Shipbuilding for six firm 114,000 DWT LR2 tankers plus two options. Yangzijiang Maritime, spun off from Yangzijiang Financial Holding Ltd. and listed in November 2025, is led by Executive Chairman and CEO Ren Yuanlin.
