Vietnamese shipowner Hoa Phat Shipping Joint Stock Company has signed a contract with local shipbuilder Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company for the construction of a new 65,000-dwt cargo vessel. The deal was signed on 28 September. The vessel, designated building number S650-01, will have an overall length of 199m, a design length of 195.3m, a beam of 32m, a moulded depth of 19m, and a deadweight capacity of 65,000 metric tons. Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company is expected to complete construction and deliver the ship to Hoa Phat Shipping in 2028. Hoa Phat said the investment is aimed primarily at supporting raw material transport for the Group's steel production operations. The company currently operates a fleet comprising large oceangoing vessels used to carry raw materials for steelmaking, alongside domestic cargo vessels that transport finished steel products. The order reflects continued investment by Vietnamese industrial groups in captive shipping capacity to support vertically integrated supply chains, as steel producers seek greater control over the logistics of raw material imports and finished product distribution.
