IINO Lines to Lead Japan’s Decarbonization Efforts with New Methanol-Fueled Crude Oil Tanker

The design of the tanker has been formulated by a four-company consortium, including IINO Lines, Idemitsu Tanker , Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), and NSY. This collaboration underscores the maritime industry's collective effort toward decarbonization. The vessel will be equipped with dual-fuel technology, enabling it to use both methanol and conventional fuel oil. Additionally, it will feature a shaft generator that harnesses the rotation of the main propeller shaft to generate electricity. This innovation is expected to significantly reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter (PM), making it a critical step towards lowering environmental impact.
