Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd - CSSC
In a landmark collaboration, Hamburg-based shipping company Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG has signed a contract with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), for the construction of four 14,000 TEU methanol-ready containerships. These vessels, independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, will measure 336 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and 30.2 meters in depth, with a capacity to carry 14,170 twenty-foot standard containers.
The containerships will be equipped to use methanol fuel, incorporating scrubbers and energy-saving devices. Delivery of the four ships to the German shipping company is scheduled between 2026 and 2027. In 2023, Hudong-Zhonghua received approvals from ABS, Lloyd’s Register, China Classification Society (CCS), DNV, and Bureau Veritas for its 16,000 TEU methanol-powered containership design. This new order highlights the growing interest in methanol as a marine fuel, with Peter Döhle Schiffahrts-KG joining the trend.
