Dalian Shipbuilding Kicks Off Construction of Eco-Friendly Containership for CMA CGM

containership will be capable of operating on both methanol and conventional fuel. Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply methanol-fueled auxiliary engines for the vessel. The design incorporates a new hull shape, large-size propellers, energy-saving devices in front of the propellers, and high-efficiency rudders, supporting a design speed of 21 knots. The ship will have the capacity to carry 8,300 tons of methanol fuel and 6,000 tons of fuel oil.This construction is part of CMA CGM's $3.06 billion agreement with CSSC, signed in April 2023, to build sixteen large containerships. The order includes twelve 15,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel vessels and four 23,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel vessels, to be built by Jiangnan Shipyard and Dalian Shipbuilding .
