Wuhu Shipyard has delivered the Western Carnation, an 18,500 DWT IMO Class II chemical tanker, marking a notable improvement in construction quality and efficiency compared to the two previous vessels in the series. During the slipway erection phase, overall construction progress accelerated markedly, with pre-outfitting work across all disciplines and installation completeness of core systems exceeding standards set by earlier builds. The vessel measures 149.8 meters in overall length and 22.8 meters in beam, and is certified for
navigation in unlimited waters. Its design offers large cargo capacity, shallow draft and high adaptability. Cargo holds are coated with Marineline special paint, enabling safe transport of IMO Class II bulk chemicals, refined oil products and vegetable oils, positioning the ship for international ocean transport of chemical and refined oil cargoes. On the technical side, the Western Carnation incorporates a design allowing future retrofitting to methanol dual-fuel operation, enabling later conversion of the main engine to meet upcoming clean energy shipping requirements. Both main and auxiliary engines come equipped as standard with SCR exhaust gas treatment systems, meeting international Tier III emission standards. Combined with an optimized hull line and high-efficiency, energy-saving propellers, these features reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions during operation, meeting EEDI Phase III energy efficiency standards. The delivery reflects a broader industry shift toward low-carbon, environmentally sustainable vessel designs for the global chemical and refined oil shipping market.
