China's Wuhu Shipyard has delivered a new 6,600-tonne-capacity chemical and product tanker equipped with 12 independent cargo tanks and a DC electric propulsion system. The vessel is designed to transport hazardous chemicals, petroleum products and edible cargoes. Each of the 12 cargo tanks is constructed from 2205 duplex stainless steel, allowing the tanker to carry a different cargo type in each tank. This configuration supports high-cleanliness transport as well as small-batch, multi-cargo operations, which are often required for chemical and specialty product shipments. Wuhu Shipyard said the vessel's DC propulsion arrangement allows its generator sets to run at their optimum fuel-consumption speed without needing to synchronise frequency with the ship's speed or load, a limitation typical of conventional AC electric propulsion and direct shaft drive systems. At low vessel speeds, one or two generators can remain active while staying within an efficient operating range, which the builder said delivers fuel savings under low-speed and variable-load conditions. The system also features a high degree of automation. The newly delivered tanker is part of the same series as RF Ran, a sister vessel that Wuhu Shipyard delivered to Norwegian shipowner RFOcean in April 2026. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, this vessel, hull number W2348, was ordered by RFOcean on 9 Jan 2025 for USD 20 million and is built with dual-fuel methanol capability; it was scheduled for delivery between January and December 2026 and was ultimately handed over on 5 Oct 2026.
