Yasa Shipping Industry & Trading AS has placed its first newbuilding order for four very large crude carriers (VLCCs) with JIANGSU NEW HANTONG SHIP HEAVY INDUSTRY. The vessels will each have a deadweight tonnage of 319,000 and will be powered by conventional fuel. Delivery of the tankers is scheduled throughout 2029. The Turkish owner, controlled by the Sabanci family, currently operates three large tankers, including the 314,000-dwt Yasa Scorpion built in 2013. This contract marks Yasa Shipping's entry into the VLCC newbuilding market amid a broader industry trend of increased VLCC orders. The deal was reported on 23 Jun 2026.
