SFL Corporation Ltd. has agreed to build two 93,000 cbm Very Large Ammonia Carriers, with delivery scheduled from the second quarter of 2028. The aggregate yard construction cost for the two vessels is expected to be approximately $216 million. The ships will be capable of carrying a wide range of petrochemical gases and will feature dual-fuel propulsion along with technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency and cargo intake optimization. Alongside the newbuild order, SFL has secured long-term time charters with an oil major, adding a minimum of approximately $162 million to its fixed-rate charter backlog. The exact duration of the initial charter period will be confirmed within the next six months, a decision that could further increase the backlog figure. The charterer also holds options to extend the agreements by up to four years. Ole B. Hjertaker, CEO of SFL Management AS, described the project as an accretive milestone that expands the company into a new vessel segment, noting that the charterer is a European-based, investment-grade oil major. He added that, including acquisitions and charter extensions announced during 2026, SFL has added more than $1.3 billion to its fixed-rate charter backlog so far this year.
