Acta Marine has christened the construction service operation vessel Acta Hercules in IJmuiden, marking a further step in a four-vessel newbuild programme aimed at expanding the company's capacity in the European offshore wind market. The vessel, delivered earlier this year, is already operating under a long term charter for Vestas, supporting offshore wind activities. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the vessel was ordered in June 2022 from Tersan Shipyard and has a deadweight of 2,200 tonnes. Acta Hercules is the second vessel delivered under the programme, following Acta Pegasus and ahead of Acta Gemini, which has since also been delivered, and the final vessel, Acta Aquarius. The ceremony brought together clients, business partners, employees and organisations involved in the vessel's construction and delivery, with Marina van Oord serving as godmother. Rob Boer, chief executive of Acta Marine, said the event recognised the people and partners who contributed to the vessel's development, construction and delivery, even though it is already working for Vestas. Acta Hercules is equipped with methanol dual fuel engines and an advanced battery energy storage system, technologies intended to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while offering flexibility as lower carbon marine fuels become more widely available. Construction service operation vessels provide accommodation, personnel transfer and offshore work capabilities, allowing technicians to remain offshore for extended periods rather than travelling daily between shore and project sites. The fourth vessel in the series, Acta Aquarius, is scheduled for delivery later this year. Once it joins the fleet, Acta Marine expects to operate seven dedicated Walk to Work and CSOV vessels, giving the company additional scale across construction, commissioning and long term operations and maintenance in offshore wind and wider energy projects.
