U-Ming Marine Transport has placed orders for six bulk carriers at Chinese shipyards in a deal valued between $296 million and $312 million. The Taiwanese owner is contracting the vessels through its Singapore subsidiary. The order comprises two newcastlemax bulkers of 211,000 DWT each, to be built at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, priced at $77 million to $80 million per unit, or $154 million to $160 million for the pair. These ships are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030. The remaining four vessels are ultramax bulkers of 64,000 DWT each, ordered at New Dayang Shipbuilding. Each ultramax is priced between $35.5 million and $38 million, bringing the total for the four ships to between $142 million and $152 million. The first ultramax is due for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2029, with the other three following in 2030. The newbuilding program adds significant bulk carrier capacity to U-Ming's fleet, spanning both the larger newcastlemax segment, typically used for long-haul coal and iron ore trades, and the smaller ultramax class favoured for its operational flexibility across a wider range of ports and cargoes. Deliveries will be spread across 2029 and 2030 as the vessels are completed at the two Chinese yards.
