Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd. (SDHI) has secured a ₹3,000 crore contract from Energy One Ltd. to build four 92,500 DWT dual-fuel ammonia bulk carriers. These vessels will be the first ammonia dual-fuel ships constructed in India and among the largest commercial ships built domestically,
measuring 229.5 meters in length and 37 meters in beam. The ships will feature an ammonia-fuelled propulsion system designed by South Korean firm KMS-EMEC and will be classed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) to meet international safety and environmental standards. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in October 2029, with the remaining three following at four-month intervals. SDHI, formerly Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited, will build the ships at its Pipavav facility. The contract announcement led to a 4.12% rise in SDHI’s share price, reflecting growing capabilities in India’s shipbuilding sector.
