MISC Orders Small-Scale LNG Carrier for Japan Trade

Japan, continuing a trade relationship that has lasted nearly 30 years. The newbuild will be the first membrane-type LNG carrier of its size constructed by Hudong Zhonghua and the first small-scale LNG carrier in China equipped with a membrane cargo containment system. It will feature a twin-skeg hull design and dual-fuel diesel-electric propulsion. This addition complements MISC’s broader fleet expansion, which includes five 174,000 cubic metre LNG carriers also on order at the same shipyard. The long-term charter provides employment for the vessel upon delivery and reinforces MISC’s position in the LNG shipping market. The deployment supports ongoing LNG supply from Malaysia to Japan, highlighting the enduring energy trade ties between the two countries.
