Grand Bahama Shipyard 's New Dock Nearing Completion Grand Bahama Shipyard has announced that its first new dock, named "East End," is approaching completion. The dock is scheduled to be delivered by the first week of November, marking a significant milestone in the shipyard’s transformation. The "East End" dock measures 357 meters in length and 76 meters in width, with a lifting capacity of 93,500 tons. Equipped with four modern cranes and advanced control systems, this new dock is poised to accommodate all existing and planned cruise ships. Additionally, construction on the second dock, called "Lucayan," is progressing well, with delivery anticipated in 2026. According to Dave Skentelbery, CEO of Grand Bahama Shipyard , the $600 million project encompasses the development of two floating docks, set to enhance the shipyard's capabilities significantly. This expansion is expected to boost the Grand Bahama economy by providing both direct and indirect employment opportunities. Skentelbery highlighted the engagement of 20 new apprentices and the recruitment of crane operators for the new docks. Upon completion, this transformation will position Grand Bahama Shipyard as a leading cruise ship repair facility, possessing the largest lifting capacity in the world. The enhanced infrastructure will enable the shipyard to service a wide range of vessels, including cruise ships and commercial shipping fleets, thereby setting a new standard in the maritime industry.
