TOP Ships Inc. has completed the acquisition of three special-purpose vehicles (SPVs) that together hold shipbuilding contracts for three high-specification, ECO, scrubber-fitted MR Product Tankers, the company announced. The deal closes a share purchase agreement dated 28 Jul 2026, under which TOP Ships bought the SPVs from a related-party seller. Each SPV holds one shipbuilding contract with an established, world-class shipbuilder, with vessel deliveries scheduled for 2029. The newbuildings are designed as fuel-efficient, scrubber-equipped MR tankers consistent with TOP Ships' existing ECO fleet strategy. The SPVs have already secured employment for the vessels, having signed time charters with an oil major. The charters will commence upon each vessel's respective delivery and run for a firm period of five years, with the charterer holding an option to extend for a further year. TOP Ships Inc. describes itself as an international owner and operator of modern, fuel-efficient ECO tanker vessels. The transaction expands the company's newbuilding orderbook while locking in medium-term charter revenue ahead of the vessels entering service later in the decade.
