On January 20, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced its first contract of the year, signing an agreement with a shipowner in Oceania for the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier valued at 379.6 billion won. The vessel is expected to be completed and delivered by June 30, 2027.

This contract further enhances SHI’s LNG carrier portfolio, increasing its order backlog to 84 vessels with a combined value of $19.1 billion.An SHI representative highlighted the company’s plans for 2025, emphasizing a strategic focus on eco-friendly shipbuilding projects. These include LNG and ammonia carriers, as well as high-value offshore developments.The deal reflects SHI's commitment to expanding its capabilities in environmentally sustainable vessel production and maintaining a strong presence in the global shipbuilding market.
