Bibby Marine has announced the signing of a new contract with Armon Shipyard in Vigo, Spain, for the construction of its electric Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (eCSOV) on 14 January. The vessel which will feature an innovative battery system alongside dual-fuel methanol engines, providing green, alternative operating solutions.

The eCSOV is designed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, saving thousands of tonnes over its operational lifespan while lowering daily operational costs. The vessel will have the capability to operate on battery power alone for a full day of operations, allowing it to travel from field to port and back without relying on fossil fuels.

Bibby Marine is collaborating with Seaplace ship design on the vessel's basic design, building upon the original concept created by Longitude. The eCSOV aims to set a new benchmark in the offshore wind industry, focusing on efficiency and sustainability. The vessel will also integrate digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize its performance and ensure long-term operational efficiency. This groundbreaking vessel will be pivotal in advancing the offshore wind sector’s push toward greener, more sustainable solutions.
