Vertom Group has announced the order of four 10,700 DWT geared tweendeckers from Chowgule Shipyards in India as part of its fleet renewal program and commitment to sustainable shipping. This strategic move enhances the collaboration between Vertom and Chowgule focusing on innovation and efficiency, with vessel deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
The contract, signed on November 18, 2024, in Goa, details the construction of vessels equipped with state-of-the-art technology aimed at safety, crew welfare, and fuel efficiency. Designed to adapt to the demands of modern shipping, these vessels will offer optimal cargo versatility with features like a gross hold volume of 14,243 m³ for dry and project cargo operations.
In line with Vertom's focus on sustainability, the vessels will utilize a Diesel-Hybrid propulsion system incorporating Tier III-compliant engines and an SCR system, alongside a 910 kWh battery package to optimize fuel consumption. CEO Arjan de Jong emphasized the significance of these vessels for their fleet renewal strategy, expressing confidence in meeting market and client demands.
The vessels will be constructed by Chowgule Shipyards, known for building over 165 ships for international clients, reinforcing a successful partnership. Once completed, they will be integrated into the Europe Caribbean Line (ECL) liner service, operated with Vertraco Shipping, linking Europe with the northern coast of South America.
This new series of vessels aligns with Vertom's strategic growth plan, complementing their fleet renewal initiative.
