Cochin Shipyard Ltd. secured a significant contract from Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) on December 27, valued at ₹450 crore approximately $52million. The agreement entails the construction of eight state-of-the-art tugboats, with deliveries slated between December 2026 and May 2028. This deal marks a crucial development in the Indian maritime sector and aligns with the government's Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, reinforcing local manufacturing and self-reliance in the industry.

The Director and CEO of APSEZ, expressed the company’s commitment to strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure emphasized that leveraging world-class local manufacturing capabilities would ensure international standards are met.This latest order builds on previous contracts placed by Adani Ports with Cochin Shipyard, which included two 62-tonne bollard pull ASD tugboats for Ocean Sparkle. These tugs have already been deployed at Paradeep Port and New Mangalore Port.

Additionally, three ASD tugs are currently under construction at Cochin Shipyard. With the latest order, Adani Ports has now committed to a total of 13 tugboats, which will modernize its fleet and enhance operational efficiency at ports. This partnership underscores confidence in Indian public sector undertakings and advances the nation's maritime services with greater innovation and reliability.
