Heritage River Journeys Private Limited has placed a repeat order with Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited for two 40-suite luxury river cruise vessels, valued at approximately US$26.3–31.6 million. The ships will operate on India's Brahmaputra River, with deliveries scheduled for June 2029 and June 2030, expanding the company's accommodation capacity in Assam. The shipbuilding agreement was signed during SAGARMANTHAN in New Delhi, in the presence of Shantanu Thakur, India's Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Raj Singh, Founder of Heritage River Journeys, and Vineet Arora, Chief Operating Officer, represented the company. Hooghly-CSL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited, will build the vessels, following the company's previous order placed in June 2025. The contract forms part of a wider investment commitment of approximately US$52.7 million in the Brahmaputra region, outlined by Raj Singh to Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam, in July 2026. The announcement does not specify how much of that broader commitment has already been deployed. Heritage River Journeys has operated in India's river cruise sector since launching Bengal Ganga in 2008 under the Antara Cruises brand. Its current fleet includes Bengal Ganga, Ganges Voyager I, Ganges Voyager II and Ganga Vilas, alongside Nauka Vilas on the Hooghly River and catamaran yachts in Bhitarkanika National Park. With 80 suites planned across the two new vessels, the order will increase the company's total accommodation capacity once both ships enter service.
