CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), signed a contract on 26 Oct 2026 in Guangzhou with South Korea's Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd. (KMTC) for six 3,100 TEU container ships. The vessels belong to Huangpu Wenchong's self-developed "Honghu" (Swan) class design, which has attracted orders from more than 20 domestic and international clients since its 2020 launch. For this contract, the design has been upgraded to meet KMTC's operational needs, offering improved economics and flexibility. KMTC is one of South Korea's largest container shipping companies, focused primarily on intra-Asian routes, and had previously ordered new vessels only from South Korean yards. The agreement marks the company's first order with the CSSC Group and its first newbuilding contract with a Chinese shipyard. The deal follows another recent milestone for Huangpu Wenchong: a contract announced days earlier to build two 1,900 TEU "Honghu"-class container ships for Vietnam's HAI AN TRANSPORT & STEVEDORING JSC, also the shipbuilder's first collaboration with that owner. Huangpu Wenchong currently operates series production lines for feeder container ships ranging from 1,100 TEU to 3,400 TEU, with its 1,900 TEU and 3,000 TEU "Honghu"-class vessels serving as flagship products in its container ship portfolio.
