Union Vega Offshore, a new joint venture between UK shipowner Union Maritime and Norway's Vega Maritime, has placed its debut newbuilding order, covering two firm platform supply vessels (PSVs) with options for four more. The vessels will be built in China, according to the company. The order marks the first concrete step by the venture since its formation, signalling an expansion of Union Maritime's business into the offshore support sector alongside Vega Maritime, led by Kenneth Fjeld. Union Maritime is headed by managing director Laurent Cadji. Details on the shipyard, delivery schedule and contract value have not been disclosed. The move reflects continued investor interest in offshore support vessels as owners seek to capitalise on firmer demand in the sector, though specifics on the deployment plans for the new PSVs have not been released. Further updates on the shipbuilding contract, including yard selection and delivery timing, are expected as the joint venture progresses with its fleet-building strategy.
