Nanjing Tanker, a Shanghai-listed shipowner controlled by China Merchants, has selected Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) as the winning bidder to build four additional LR2 product and crude tankers. The award follows a tender launched last month and expands the company's planned LR2 newbuilding programme at the Chinese yard to six vessels in total. The new ships will be required to meet IMO Tier III emissions standards and phase three requirements of the energy efficiency design index. No price or delivery schedule has been disclosed, and a formal shipbuilding contract has not yet been announced. Nanjing Tanker already holds orders for two 115,000 dwt LR2 vessels at DSIC under a contract signed in September 2025, with deliveries scheduled for August and October 2028. The latest selection would roughly triple the company's exposure to the larger product tanker segment. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the four newly selected LR2s are also 115,000 dwt vessels and will run on conventional fuel, matching the specification of the earlier DSIC pair; the order was reported on 19 Oct 2026, citing Nanjing Tanker and Tradewinds as sources. The move is part of a broader fleet renewal drive that has seen Nanjing Tanker place multiple orders at domestic shipyards. The company also has two 65,000 dwt panamax crude and product tankers on order at Dalian, and in July it contracted four 50,000 dwt MR product and chemical carriers at Guangzhou Shipyard International for up to $182.8 million. At the end of June, Nanjing Tanker controlled 73 vessels with a combined capacity of about 2.8 million dwt, including 34 product tankers, with its existing product fleet dominated by MR tonnage.
