Global Car Carriers (GCC), controlled by MSC, has ordered two more LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard in China, expanding its newbuilding programme to 22 vessels. The two 8,600 ceu ships, designated Viking NB 21 and Viking NB 22, are scheduled for delivery in 2030. The contract value was not disclosed. The order brings GCC's total orderbook to eighteen 8,600 ceu vessels and four 7,000 ceu vessels, representing combined carrying capacity of 182,800 vehicles. All deliveries are now scheduled between 2028 and 2030, with the entire orderbook placed at Chinese shipyards. Zhoushan Changhong becomes the latest Chinese builder added to GCC's programme, alongside China Merchants Weihai, Guangzhou Shipyard International and Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, which together secured an eight-vessel order placed only weeks earlier. Zhoushan Changhong also builds LNG dual-fuel containerships for GCC's parent MSC, including a series of 21,700 teu vessels. The Oslo-based company, formerly known as Gram Car Carriers, has rapidly scaled its newbuilding activity since being acquired by MSC in 2024 in a deal worth approximately $700m. MSC subsequently took the company private and renamed it Global Car Carriers earlier this year. GCC's orderbook has grown from 12 vessels in July to 20 vessels valued at more than $2bn after the earlier order, and now stands at 22 ships following the latest contract.
