CMA CGM has officially named CMA CGM Lorenzaccio, its latest 15,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship, expanding the French carrier's fleet of vessels capable of running on alternative marine fuels. The ship is part of a series of six CMA CGM containerships named after characters from French literature, with Lorenzaccio taking its name from the protagonist of the play by writer Alfred de Musset. Under the command of Captain Predrag Vojvodic, the vessel will be deployed on CMA CGM's Red Sea Express 2 (REX2) service, a weekly rotation linking major Asian ports with Red Sea destinations including Djibouti, Jeddah, Ain Sokhna and Aqaba. The naming of CMA CGM Lorenzaccio reflects the company's continued investment in dual-fuel newbuildings designed to reduce reliance on conventional bunker fuel. Methanol has emerged as one of several alternative fuels being adopted by major container lines seeking to cut emissions from oceangoing fleets, alongside LNG and other options under development across the industry. With the addition of this vessel, CMA CGM further strengthens its methanol-capable capacity as it continues to roll out newbuildings across its global network, supporting services connecting Asia with the Red Sea region.
