Dubai-based Emarat Maritime has ordered six additional 74,000 dwt LR1 product tankers in China, further expanding a newbuilding programme that is reshaping the company's fleet. The vessels are being built at Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, with the first two due for delivery in 2029 and the remaining four in 2030. No contract price has been disclosed, though recent comparable Chinese LR1 orders have been priced around $55m per ship, suggesting the sextet could be worth roughly $330m. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the order was reported on 18 November 2025, with a contract value of USD 55 million per vessel, confirming the roughly USD 330 million total price tag for the six-ship series. The order triples Emarat's exposure to the LR1 segment, which currently comprises three older vessels: the 2007-built Dubai Diamond and Dubai Gold, and the 2005-built Dubai Green. It also pushes the company's total newbuilding pipeline to 22 vessels, including six 114,000 dwt LR2 tankers at Hengli Heavy Industries, four 93,000 cu m very large ammonia carriers also at Hengli, and six 930 teu feeder containerships at Hubei Guangji Xinneng Shipbuilding. The Sharaf Group-backed owner's expansion spans product tankers, gas carriers and containerships, representing a significant scale-up for a company whose operating fleet currently numbers 19 ships. The tanker orders arrive as secondhand LR1 values remain strong; Splash reported last week that two 2016-built LR1s, Bluebird and Starling, sold to UAE interests for about $55m each, placing nine-year-old tonnage near the price of some newly contracted Chinese vessels.
