Under the contract, eCap Marine will deliver the complete hydrogen system package for both vessels, including compressed hydrogen storage, PEM fuel cell technology rated at 1.2 MW per ship, and the associated power management, control and safety systems for maritime use. Torstein Holvik, CEO of GMI, said the company aims to become a leading owner of hydrogen-powered vessels and views the newbuilds as a further step toward that goal. Lars Ravens, Managing Director of eCap Marine, said the repeat order reflects growing confidence in hydrogen as a practical maritime fuel solution, adding that the company will apply experience from earlier projects to the new vessels. eCap Marine specialises in hydrogen- and battery-based power systems for shipping, covering feasibility studies, technical design and regulatory approval processes.
