CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding, together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), signed a cooperation agreement on 27 Aug 2026 with Shandong Shipping Corporation (SDSC) for a project covering 2+4 units of 325,000 DWT ethanol/methanol tri-fuel ore carriers. The vessels represent a new generation of large ore carriers designed to meet future maritime emission-reduction requirements. Besides ethanol, they can operate on methanol and heavy fuel
oil, while also incorporating provisions for future LNG and ammonia fuel capabilities. The design approach aims to balance current energy efficiency standards with the flexibility to adopt alternative fuels as they become available. The project brings together resources from global mining companies and domestic financial institutions under an innovative business model, with the stated goal of securing a first-mover position in the shipping industry's green transition and reinforcing competitiveness in the international market. Beihai Shipbuilding currently holds orders for more than 100 vessels totaling over 23 million deadweight tons, with deliveries scheduled as far out as 2031. The company ranks first globally in VLOC deliveries and holds a leading position in large bulk carrier orders, with green vessels accounting for more than 80% of its order book.
