MISC has signed contracts for five additional 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at China's Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard, bringing the Malaysian shipowner's total orders for large LNG carriers at the yard this year to ten. The agreements were signed on 16 October. The latest five vessels are scheduled to enter service in 2030 under firm 20-year charter agreements with PETRONAS LNG Ltd. They follow an earlier batch of five ships ordered in January and February, which also carry 20-year employment with PETRONAS and are expected to begin operations between 2029 and 2030. The newbuilding programme links MISC's fleet renewal strategy with long-term customer demand, supporting PETRONAS' future LNG transportation needs while adding more efficient tonnage to MISC's fleet. With charter commitments extending toward 2050, the company has indicated that reliable operations, fuel efficiency and cargo management will remain priorities throughout the vessels' operational lives. The ten-ship order underscores continued investment in large-scale LNG carrier capacity at Hudong-Zhonghua, a major Chinese shipbuilder, as MISC positions itself to meet sustained demand from PETRONAS for long-term LNG transport capacity extending well into the middle of the century.
