Sanmar Shipyards delivered the tugboat UT AMAZONAS to Ultratug at a ceremony held at its Altinova Shipyard on 11 Aug 2026. The vessel will operate in Colombia and is the sister ship to UT PATZCUARO, the first tug Sanmar built for Ultratug, delivered a few months earlier and now working in Mexico. Ultratug Colombia was represented at the handover by Silvia Herrera, Country Manager; Cristian Franco, Fleet and Operations Manager; and José Morales, Maintenance Engineer. They were welcomed by Sanmar's Vice Chairman
& CEO Ali Gürün, Director of Corporate Strategy Ipek Gürün, Governance Processes Manager Selin Seven, Commercial Director Ruchan Civgin, and other company directors. UT AMAZONAS is a Bogaçay Class tug built to the RAmparts 2400SX-MKII design developed by Robert Allan Ltd for Sanmar. It is powered by two CAT 3516E main engines, each rated at a minimum of 2,200 kW at 1,600 rpm and compliant with IMO Tier III emissions standards, supported by CAT selective catalytic reduction technology. The tug delivers at least 75 tons of bollard pull over the stern and a free-running speed of 12.5 knots, measuring 24.4 meters in length, 12.0 meters in beam, 4.5 meters in depth and 5.45 meters draft. The vessel is equipped with Kongsberg US 255S P30 FP azimuth thrusters, a TW-E 250 kN forward towing winch, a DTH 90-135P aft towing hook, and FiFi 1 firefighting capability. It accommodates up to eight crew members in soundproofed cabins across the deck and lower levels.
