Fincantieri and Viking have signed contracts for two new cruise ships, extending a shipbuilding relationship that now totals 28 vessels. The agreement stems from options Viking announced in April 2025 and will see both ships built at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard in Italy, with delivery scheduled for 2032. Fincantieri described the value of the deal, which remains subject to financing and other conditions, as "large."
Each newbuild, designed for the small cruise ship segment, will measure approximately 54,300 gross tons and accommodate 998 passengers across 499 cabins. The vessels will draw on the design of earlier Viking ships built by Fincantieri while incorporating updated environmental, navigation and safety requirements. The contract follows recently announced orders for two expedition cruise ships for Viking, continuing the operator's broader fleet expansion. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero called the agreement "another milestone" in the companies' long-standing partnership, noting that assigning the vessels to Ancona provides long-term production continuity for the yard and its supply chain while supporting skilled employment. The latest order extends Viking's newbuild pipeline well into the next decade as the cruise operator continues growing both its ocean and expedition fleets in partnership with Fincantieri.
