QatarEnergy took delivery of its newest LNG carrier, Al Sabsab, on 17 Aug 2026. The vessel is the latest in a series of LNG carriers that China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has been constructing for QatarEnergy since 2024. The newbuild has a length overall of 299 metres, a beam of 46.4 metres, a depth of 26.25 metres, and a total cargo capacity of 174,000
cubic metres. It features a twin-skeg design along with other systems aimed at improving hydrodynamic performance. Al Sabsab is powered by a dual-fuel diesel engine fitted with an intelligent control by exhaust recycling (ICER) system, which helps reduce methane slip during gas mode operation as well as overall greenhouse gas emissions. By cooling and recirculating exhaust gas, the ICER system allows a portion of the methane present in the exhaust to be re-combusted, further lowering the vessel's emissions profile. The ship is classed by both China Classification Society and American Bureau of Shipping. Al Sabsab will operate under a long-term charter with Mitsui OSK Lines, continuing QatarEnergy's expansion of its LNG carrier fleet as part of its broader shipbuilding programme with Hudong-Zhonghua.
