Rauma Marine Constructions Oy (RMC) is expanding its Arctic government-vessel business while constructing four Pohjanmaa-class corvettes for the Finnish Navy and two Arctic Security Cutters for the U.S. Coast Guard. To support these complex naval and ice-going programs, RMC has invested over €60 million in its Rauma yard during the 2020s. The Finnish shipbuilder has modernized its production model
with a focus on industrialized series production and enhanced integration between project management and manufacturing. Key technological upgrades include the introduction of a 3D design environment and renewed enterprise resource planning, project management, and task-tracking systems. The centerpiece of the yard investment is a 186-metre multi-purpose construction hall that can accommodate two corvette-sized vessels simultaneously in a secure indoor environment. RMC's facilities also include steel-processing capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year, a permanent dry dock, three outfitting quays, and an 11,000-tonne submersible barge used for launching and docking operations. These investments position RMC to meet the demands of increasingly sophisticated naval and Arctic vessel programs, reinforcing its role in government shipbuilding in Finland and internationally.
