Gujarat has unveiled the Gujarat Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Policy 2026, aiming to attract ₹23,700 crore in private investment to boost its shipbuilding and ship repair sectors. The policy includes the development of a mega greenfield shipbuilding cluster in Porbandar, two Integrated Mega Shipbuilding Parks, and an allocation of nearly ₹3,300 crore for common marine and onshore infrastructure. With plans to expand shipbuilding capacity to over 5 million DWT and provide skill development for more than 500,000 people, Gujarat is positioning itself as India’s premier maritime manufacturing hub. The state boasts the longest coastline in India at 2,340 km and hosts the world’s largest ship recycling yard at Alang. This initiative reflects Gujarat’s strategic focus on strengthening its maritime industry, leveraging its geographic advantages and existing infrastructure. The policy aims to enhance the state’s competitiveness in the global shipbuilding market while supporting economic growth and employment.
