Purus Marine Confirms Order for South Korean LNG Carrier
UK-based shipowner Purus Marine has confirmed an order for a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries , expanding its fleet in South Korea. The order includes a 180,000 cubic meter capacity vessel, with expected delivery in the fourth quarter of 2027 for a long-term charter arrangement with a prominent energy company.
While the financial details remain undisclosed, industry sources have linked Purus Marine to a deal valued at approximately $262 million, announced previously by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering. The new LNG carrier is set to be dual-fuel, adhering to EEDI Phase III standards, promising a significant reduction in emissions compared to conventional marine fuels.
This latest acquisition brings Purus Marine's total gas carrier orderbook to ten vessels, all of which are being constructed at yards affiliated with HD Hyundai. Established in 2020, the company has been active in diversifying its shipping deals, which includes four similar LNG carriers recently delivered from Samsung Heavy Industries .
