Eregli Shipyard has been awarded a  contract by the Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM) to construct two of Türkiye's most powerful escort tugboats. These vessels, each measuring 42 meters in length, offer a bollard pull capacity of 130 tons, representing a new milestone in Türkiye's maritime capabilities. The project, officially signed on May 5, involves building emergency response tugboats that are equipped with advanced firefighting systems. These tugboats will include engine-driven pumps feeding monitors capable of delivering substantial water and foam outputs to swiftly respond to emergency scenarios. The construction emphasizes safety through robust fendering systems designed for high-risk terminal operations. Recai Hakan Şen, Chairman of Med Marine Holding and Eregli Shipyard, highlighted the importance of this project in strengthening Türkiye's maritime security. Mr. Mustafa Bankaoğlu, representing KEGM, expressed appreciation for the national and domestic focus of this project, praising the strategic enhancement in Türkiye's navigational safety. The technical specifications of the tugboats include a maximum draft of 7.5 meters, depth of 6.4 meters, beam of 16 meters, a speed of 14 knots, and a crew capacity of 11 persons. This project signifies a commitment to domestic maritime infrastructure, further aligning with national strategic objectives.
