Safe Bulkers, a maritime company led by Cypriot shipowner Polys Hajioannou, has recently expanded its fleet with the addition of the 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax-class bulk carrier, 'EFROSSINI', built by Japan's Oshima Shipbuilding .
The new vessel, which carries the Cyprus flag, marks the 47th ship in the company's growing fleet. According to an announcement on Thursday, Safe Bulkers confirmed that an additional six vessels are currently under construction, highlighting its ongoing strong relations with Japanese shipyards.
As one of the largest shipowners under the Cypriot flag, Safe Bulkers, Inc. continues to promote Cyprus as a significant hub for global shipping. The company's operations in Cyprus are overseen by Safe Bulkers Management Ltd., which handles all technical, commercial, and administrative tasks.
Polys Hajioannou, serving as CEO and chairman since 2008, has a long-standing maritime legacy and is connected to the aviation industry through a significant stake in easyJet, founded by his brother. Besides shipping, Hajioannou is also known for substantial real estate investments in Cyprus, Greece, Monaco, and London.
Safe Bulkers specialises in dry bulk vessels, maintaining a diverse fleet that includes Panamax, Kamsarmax, Post-Panamax, and Capesize class vessels. The majority of the fleet has been built in Japanese shipyards, underlining the company's commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.
