Hindustan Shipyard has entered into a significant contract with MAN Energy Solutions to supply main propulsion packages for five new fleet support ships (FSS) for the Indian Navy. The agreement involves the delivery of ten 20V32/44CR ship engines, complete with reduction gears, shaft generators, bow thrusters, and MAN Alpha Navy CPP systems. The fleet support ships mark a new class of large supply vessels designed to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy. Commodore Hemant Khatri (ret.), Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Shipyard Limited, emphasized the global presence of MAN engines and encouraged the company to bolster its business model in India through increased local manufacturing and enhanced post-delivery service infrastructure. Gaby Hanna, Senior Vice President and Head of Region Middle East at MAN Energy Solutions, expressed delight at being entrusted with the task by the Indian Navy, noting the package's adherence to critical demands such as reliability, efficiency, shock-resistance, and integrated logistical support. This development is poised to contribute toward India's 'Make in India' initiative and strengthen collaboration between MAN Energy Solutions and the Indian maritime industry. The propulsion system's salient feature is the inclusion of a MAN Alpha CP propeller, with a design focus on hydrodynamics, marking a milestone in the enduring relationship between the two entities.
