Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has secured a  contract with the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (BAKAMLA) for constructing an offshore patrol vessel (OPV). This project will see the vessel built at MHI’s Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works located in Yamaguchi Prefecture, with an anticipated delivery date set for March 2028.
The contract stems from a grant agreement made in March 2024 between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The goal is to enhance maritime safety and security capabilities within Indonesia. The new OPV is expected to bolster BAKAMLA's efficiency in maritime rescues and law enforcement activities.
