New Dayang Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of SUMEC Group, has secured its first-ever order for four product tankers, marking a significant strategic expansion into the tanker market for the company. The deal involves the construction of medium-range (MR) tankers, although the client remains undisclosed. Previously, New Dayang Shipbuilding focused primarily on building bulk carriers and containerships. SUMEC, which oversees the shipbuilding operations, stated, "We have seized the opportunity in the growing oil and chemical tanker market and established collaboration with a renowned shipowner." The company sees this venture as a way to diversify their product offerings and manage operational risks effectively. The new tankers will be advanced methanol-ready vessels, equipped with intelligent systems designed to meet high environmental standards. Delivery is expected between 2027 and 2028. This order showcases the company's expanding footprint, with recent partnerships spanning clients from Japan, Taiwan, the Middle East, and North Africa.
