Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has announced plans to integrate advanced wind-assisted propulsion technology into its fleet, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable shipping. In a recent agreement with bound4blue, EPS will install three 22-meter-high eSAIL® suction sails on a new medium-range tanker currently under construction by New Times Shipbuilding in Jiangsu Province, China. The installation is scheduled for late 2025.

The eSAIL® system, a fully autonomous Wind Assisted Propulsion System (WAPS), aims to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, aligning with global maritime sustainability goals.This initiative builds on EPS’s successful collaboration with bound4blue earlier this year. In February, three eSAIL® units were retrofitted on the Pacific Sentinel, a 50,000dwt vessel. The retrofitting project marked EPS’s first venture into deploying this cutting-edge technology.With this new installation, EPS underscores its commitment to leveraging innovative technologies to achieve a greener future in shipping.
