Norwegian shipowner Siem Industries has ordered two offshore support and construction vessels (OSCVs) from Mawei Shipyard, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group, according to shipbroker Fearnley Offshore Supply. Delivery is scheduled for 2029 and 2030, with the construction cost undisclosed. Clarksons data indicates the contract also includes options for two additional vessels. Norway's Sirius Design & Integration is handling the conceptual and full basic design of the OSCV class, based on its construction support vessel concept. The vessels will have an overall length of 144 metres, a 400-ton crane, and a design focus on operational flexibility, energy efficiency and future-proof systems. Mawei Shipyard has recently secured multiple offshore engineering contracts. Besides the Siem Industries order, Union Vega Offshore — a joint venture between British shipowner Union Maritime and Norwegian shipowner Vega Maritime — has ordered 2+4 platform supply vessels (PSVs) from the yard, with deliveries starting in 2028. Designed by Breeze Ship Design, the 84-metre PSVs will feature battery-hybrid propulsion, a moon pool, 900 square metres of deck space, accommodation for 44 crew, and provision for a future 50-ton Active Heave Compensation crane. Mawei Shipyard, founded in 1866 as the Fujian Shipbuilding Bureau, was China's first mechanized shipbuilder. It relocated to Culu Island in Lianjiang in 2016 and now spans roughly 1,060 mu, with a 280-metre offshore engineering dry dock, a 700-ton gantry crane, three outfitting piers and 1,326 metres of berthing line.
