CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has signed a contract with a leading European shipowner for the construction of four 3,700-TEU container ships. The deal was finalized on 23 Oct 2026 in cooperation with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), which acted as intermediary in the transaction. The order follows previous contracts secured by the shipyard for 910 RFEU and 3,100-TEU vessels, extending its presence in the feeder container ship segment and broadening its overall order book. According to CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, the 3,700-TEU design represents a new generation of efficient, environmentally friendly feeder vessels, with technical parameters such as cargo capacity, deadweight and fuel consumption offering notable advantages over comparable ships in the market. The shipyard said the new vessels will achieve carbon emissions well below the International Maritime Organization's EEDI requirements, while nitrogen oxide emissions will meet Tier III standards and sulfur oxide emissions will comply with current regulations. The company described the order as a milestone in the feeder container ship sector, reinforcing its competitiveness in the market for green, high-end vessels as shipowners continue to prioritize fuel efficiency and regulatory compliance in newbuild tonnage.
