Eastern Pacific Shipping Pte. Ltd. (EPS), owned by Idan Ofer, has named Terra Clove, its first ammonia dual-fuel very large ammonia carrier (VLAC), at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' Ulsan yard in South Korea. The 93,000 cu m, 230 m vessel is due for delivery in November following sea trials and will be the first ammonia dual-fuel commercial ship registered under the Singapore flag. Terra Clove is the first of two such vessels HD Hyundai is building for EPS. It can carry ammonia as cargo and burn it as fuel, powered by Everllence's 6G60ME-LGIA two-stroke engine, and features four cargo tanks along with dedicated ammonia fuel handling and safety systems, including leak detection and emissions management. The project began in June 2022 as a partnership between EPS, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, HD Hyundai and ABS, focused on design, safety and regulatory approval. At the naming ceremony, EPS also signed a strategic partnership with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping to collaborate on alternative fuels, dual-fuel propulsion, energy efficiency and ammonia safety, with a joint white paper on VLAC design, operational safety and crew training planned later this year. The vessel strengthens EPS's growing presence in the ammonia carrier market. Earlier this year, the company ordered two more 90,000 cu m VLACs from China's Jiangnan Shipyard, using LPG dual-fuel propulsion, for delivery in the first half of 2028, following six 93,000 cu m VLACs already booked at the same yard.
