Jinhui Shipping and Transportation, a prominent Chinese bulker owner and operator, has embarked on a significant fleet expansion initiative by entering the newbuilding market. The Oslo- and Hong Kong-listed company has contracted Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry to construct two 63,500 dwt vessels in a deal valued at $68 million.The first of these newbuilds is scheduled for delivery by December 2026, with the second unit expected to be handed over by November 2027. According to Jinhui Shipping, both ships will be chartered out and boast superior fuel efficiency and operational capabilities compared to the existing bulkers in their fleet.

This move aligns with Jinhui’s strategy of modernizing its fleet. Since last year, the company has phased out several older vessels, replacing them with younger, more efficient ships through charter-in deals or acquisitions. Currently, Jinhui's fleet comprises 33 bulkers, of which 23 are owned by the company.The newbuilds are expected to enhance Jinhui’s operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, reflecting the company’s commitment to maintaining a modern and competitive fleet in the global shipping industry.
