Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has taken delivery of three new 210,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel Newcastlemax bulk carriers built by Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding in China. The vessels, named Mount Victoria, Mount Yulong and Mount Wuyi, are the third, fourth and fifth ships in a 14-vessel series ordered by EPS from the China State Shipbuilding Corporation subsidiary. All three have been chartered to Shourong Shipping, part of China's Shougang Group. Measuring 299.99 metres in length and 50 metres in beam, the newbuilds feature LNG dual-fuel propulsion supported by Type C LNG storage tanks. Operating on LNG is expected to cut carbon emissions by approximately 20% while bringing sulphur oxide emissions close to zero. The ships are also fitted with open-loop exhaust gas scrubbers, allowing use of high-sulphur fuel oil, and have an enlarged fuel-oil capacity of 4,150 cubic metres, providing sufficient endurance for round voyages between China and Brazil. Additional efficiency measures include optimised hull lines, energy-saving devices and a PTI shaft generator, which the shipbuilder says deliver a 2% increase in propulsive efficiency compared with its previous-generation design. The three vessels were delivered around five months ahead of their contractual schedules, underscoring the shipyard's progress in constructing large, alternative-fuel bulk carriers. The deliveries form part of EPS's expanding Newcastlemax fleet and reflect the growing adoption of LNG dual-fuel technology in the large bulk carrier segment.
