
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on 30 Sep 2026 that it has secured an order for two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) from a Bermuda-based shipowner, valued at 307.4 billion won (approximately $226.4 million). The contract amount per vessel is approximately 153.7 billion won (approximately $113.2 million), with delivery scheduled by the end of February 2030. With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative commercial vessel orders for the year reached 44 ships worth $7.5 billion (approximately 10.2 trillion won), equal to 132% of its annual target of $5.7 billion (approximately 7.7 trillion won). The company secured 28 vessels in the first half and added 16 more in the second half. By vessel type, LNG carriers led with 18 units, including one floating LNG storage and regasification unit, followed by 14 crude oil tankers, 6 gas carriers, 4 container ships, and 2 ethane carriers. In the offshore segment, the company won orders for two floating LNG production units valued at $4.4 billion (approximately 6 trillion won), representing 54% of its offshore annual target of $8.2 billion (approximately 11.1 trillion won). Combined shipbuilding and offshore orders totaled 46 vessels worth $11.9 billion (approximately 16.2 trillion won), or 86% of the company's overall annual target of $13.9 billion (approximately 18.9 trillion won). Second-quarter consolidated revenue reached 3.2307 trillion won (approximately $2.4 billion), with operating profit of 325 billion won (approximately $239.3 million), up 20.4% and 58.7% year-over-year respectively. A company official cited diversifying customer demand tied to global energy market shifts and the trend toward eco-friendly vessel conversion, noting continued strong demand for gas carriers including LNG carriers and VLGCs.
