CMA CGM Orders Six 3,100-TEU Boxships from Weihai Shipyard

400 million euros, marking the French carrier's first investment in ro-ro passenger vessel construction. Those ships are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2027. The new container ship contract carries particular significance for China Merchants Industry Weihai Shipyard, which primarily builds high-end passenger-ro-ro and car-ro-ro vessels. The yard's last container ship project dated back to 2025, when it received a joint order from Singapore-based East Pacific Shipping and XT Shipping for four 3,160-TEU container ships — its first container ship order in a decade. The latest deal with CMA CGM represents a further step in the shipyard's push to diversify into the container vessel segment after years of focus on passenger-ro-ro tonnage. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the order was placed on 18 Feb 2026 and reported on 14 Oct 2025, with the six vessels scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029, and the ships will be LNG-fuelled.
