Seaspan Corporation and A.P. Moller-Maersk have announced a $75 million vessel efficiency programme targeting 18 ships on long-term charter to Maersk. The initiative aims to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, increase cargo capacity, and enhance operational flexibility. The retrofit strategy will begin with four 13,000 TEU vessels, featuring upgrades such
as shaft generators to reduce auxiliary engine fuel use, main engine optimisation, high-efficiency propellers with pre-swirl installations, and preparations for future carbon capture regulations. These measures are designed to improve the vessels' environmental performance and operational efficiency. Seaspan, a Singapore-based asset owner and operator, is collaborating closely with the Danish shipping company to implement these high-impact modifications. The programme reflects growing industry efforts to meet stricter emissions standards and improve sustainability in container shipping. This retrofit project marks a significant step in Maersk's ongoing commitment to decarbonisation and operational innovation, aligning with global maritime environmental regulations and market demands.
